Removing Dropbox Error on Teacher Laptops

If staff or students are using Dropbox and get a message they do not have permission to run/use it, they have to do the following:

Click on the Dropbox icon in the Menu bar.
Click on the gear icon (lower right)
Click on Quit

Open Self Service and check in District Software to see if there is an install for Dropbox. Run if it is there. If not there, it means it has already run on the laptop.

Open Dropbox from Applications.

That should take care of the permissions window that keeps popping up.

Increasing Screen Time-out for Macs

THIS IS FOR MAC USERS ONLY

If your reimaged/new laptop is timing out too quickly which means you have to re-enter your computer password, I just put into Casper a package to allow you to change the timeout.
This policy will only run while at school. You will need to restart your computer first and then login.

Go to the Apple icon (upper left corner of your screen)
Click on System Preferences
Click on Energy Saver
If the lock at the bottom left of the window is locked, click on it.
Enter your computer login password
Click Unlock.
In the bar slider labeled, "Turn display off after", you may move the slider to whatever timeout you would like. You have to do this for the Battery setting and the Power Adapter setting.
Please do not set it to Never as that will shorten the life of the display
Click on System Preferences and select Quit System Preferences.

If the above does not work, please open Self Service and run the software package in District Software called Energy Save Unlock.
Then try the above procedure again.

Importing Google Contacts

http://www.lehigh.edu/google/google_contacts.png
Rather than manually typing in each student's or parent's email address, follow these instructions to create a .csv file that you can import into your Google Contacts. You can automatically create a group name by Homeroom, Cluster and/or Class.

You must be logged in to Wayland Google Apps as a teacher to see this information.
1) Download the instructions - Google Spreadsheet that you can download/print from the file menu.

2) Download the master data file - Excel spreadsheet that you can download using the file menu.

3) Download the Google Import template.  - Click the Download button.

The process is a bit advanced so please see me if you need help.

HELP!

I need help with technology! What do I do?!

Teachers:
  • Emergency that impacts the teaching and learning of my class: send a student to the library,  call (x4211) for Ms. Monahan,  or call the help desk at 508.652.7216
  • Tech issue that does not immediately affect teaching and learning: email help_desk and  cc: Beth_Monahan to ensure all parties are in the loop.
  • Planning for technology integration (curriculum or productivity):
    email: Beth_Monahan
Add your name to BAM's appointment calendar
Students:
  • Ask your teacher or another student in your class for help.
  • If you still need help, your teacher may send you to see Ms. Monahan in the Library.  Find her desk on the side of the Library closest to the theater. If she is not there, please leave a note with your name, your question and your homeroom teacher.  Ms. Monahan will get back to you as soon as possible.
  • You may also email Ms. Monahan at Beth_Monahan@wayland.k12.ma.us

New Printers

A new printer has been purchased and installed in the Upper Lab. The 2 printers previously in the lab have been moved to replace the 8th Arade Area and 7th grade Area 1 printers.

Teachers with Windows PC's will have to delete the 3 old printers (Upper Lab, 8th Grade Area and 7th Grade Area 1) and re-add.

Teachers with Mac computers may have to restart their computer and login again to get the updated drivers.

If you don't do this Joe said you'll print "gibberish"...his highly technical term, not mine. ;)
